Medical Equipment & Supplies
Your Medicare or Medicaid benefits include reimbursement for the equipment you need to remain independent at home. This includes diabetic testing equipment and supplies, oxygen, wheelchairs and walkers, special beds and even incontinence supplies. Home Health Care or Hospice Service can coordinate placement and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement of equipment and supplies. Most communities have at least one medical supply dealer in a physical location. You can procure from them directly. Your doctor may may prescribe special equipment and supplies for use in your home. You take this prescription to a medical supply store just as you would take a medication prescription to a pharmacy. The dealer will know how to work with your insurance, private or Medicare/Medicaid. There may be a copay due at time of procurement. Ask your doctor, Senior Center Counselor or Area Agency on Aging rep how to proceed. They will help you.
